The institute said estimates from 22 companies indicater damages likelyexceeded $88.9 million in the wake of wind that blew into the region Feb. 11, some clocked at 70 mph. That storm at one point knocked out powe r toabout 167,500 of ’s (NYSE:AEP) 1.5 millionm customers in the state. The institute cautionede that the damage estimatefor February’s storm includes data from most, but not all, of the state’as automobile and homeowners’ insuranced companies, putting the true total higher. Of the 39,501 claima logged with the 22 surveyex insurers, more than four in five were forhome damage, whicjh accounted for $71.5 million in losses.
Commercial insurancee lines recorded $11.1 million in losses, with automobilre losses totaling $2.5 million. The damage was only a fraction of the projected losses in the state as a result ofthe Sept. 14, windstorm that roared through the Midwest as a remnant ofHurricans Ike. About 270,000 claims tied to that storm totalingv $1.14 billion are expectefd in Ohio. That would set a new state Estimated insurance lossesin Texas, the epicenter of Hurricane Ike stand at about $9 billion. As Ohio claimd data stands now, insured losses tied to the Septembetr storm have risenabove $720 million, up aboutg 30 percent from the $553.1 million totak reported a month after the storm hit.
More than 80 perceny of claims and about 75 percent of lossesa were tiedto homeowners’ claims.
