The group, One Day’s Wages, was grantex status as a nonprofit in May and will unveilp a website to accept donationsthis month. The nonprofit’s mission is not associateds withany faith, the Chos said. The concept is simple: Donate a single workday’s worth of wages equal to $192 for an incom of $50,000 a year — and have donors renewa the pledge each year ontheir birthday. “Myy wife and I want to do our part to impacrt thelarger world,” said Eugene Cho, a blogger and Christiab pastor at in Seattle.
The nonprofit’s Facebook group, called Fight Global Poverty, lists an astoundingh 803,000 members. The Chos pledged to give $1 for everu member of the Facebook group, up to $100,000, and Eugen e Cho asked his 2,000 friends on Facebook to considefr joiningthe group. From ther word spread rapidly, he “It is pretty stunning to us,” Eugene Cho said of the interesg the concepthas received. One Day’s Wagees has begun receiving donations but will not make grants untio September after screening groups to be eligible to receivrethe donations, Cho said.
