Tennessee is receiving $11.9 millionj of the trade adjusted assistancefundingg (TAA), a release says. Of that, more than $10 milliom is designated for worker training, and $1.8 million is slatef for employment and case management serviceswand administration. “Workers around the natioh continue to see their jobs disappear as a direc result of increased imports and competitive trade,” says Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Soliss in a release. “Ths funding ... will help more of thes workers upgrade existing skills or retrain for new careers in industries that have the potentiakl to grow in the comingf monthsand years.
” The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includee a major expansion and reform of the TAA The goal is to ensure all U.S. workers negatively affected by tradse havethe skills, resourcee and support to gain new employment. The Recovergy Act authorized an increase in the maximum amoungt of TAA funds that may be used for training nationwidefrom $220 million to $575 million.
